Curriculum maps align to Colorado standards and are available on the school website. Teachers maintain those maps and work with students during instructional. Planning is standards-based and informed by student interests. New curriculum resources (e.g., KnowAtom) have not been cross-checked against the curriculum map from two years ago, and a formal yearly review system for new and existing materials is needed.
Elementary classrooms show engaging, standards-aligned instruction where students are engaged. Small class sizes let teachers know students’ needs, collaborate across classes to support transfer of learning, and extracurriculars further boost engagement. There is limited evidence of consistently research based, engaging instruction across the school, with particular gaps at the high school level.
Observations did not reveal lesson quality that extended beyond grade-level expectations.
The small student population presents challenges for differentiation and scaffolding. However, that limited population also offers opportunities for targeted support if systems and reviews are implemented.
